Launching Culture Clubhouses Across Ghana — Beginning in Juaben

Preserving Heritage. Empowering Youth. Building the Future.

Across Ghana, children are growing up in a rapidly changing, digital world. While this brings new opportunities, it also creates a gap: many young people are losing connection to the stories, traditions, language, and wisdom that shape our identity as Ghanaians. At the same time, many communities lack safe and inspiring spaces where children can learn, explore creativity, access technology, and build pride in who they are.

Connected to Culture is launching a nationwide initiative to change this. We are building Culture Clubhouses, and the first one will begin in Juaben, a historic Ashanti town known for strong cultural heritage, leadership, and education.

What is a Culture Clubhouse?

A Culture Clubhouse is a modern, community-based learning and cultural space for children, teens, and families. It blends the strengths of a library, technology hub, cultural centre, and youth innovation space. Each Clubhouse will offer:

• A reading and literacy corner featuring African children’s literature, history, and global books
• A technology and digital learning lab with computers, internet access, creative software, and skill-building workshops
• A cultural learning space for storytelling, traditional music and dance, local language, oral history, and intergenerational heritage programs
• A safe community hub for youth clubs, mentorship, leadership development, and cultural exchange

It is more than a library. It is a cultural learning experience designed for the modern African child, rooted in identity and prepared for the future.

Why Juaben is the First Location

Juaben is an ideal place to launch the first Culture Clubhouse. As one of the historic traditional states within the Ashanti Kingdom, Juaben has a deep cultural legacy, a strong educational foundation, and a engaged diaspora community ready to support meaningful development.

Recent news stories reflect both the need and the community readiness:

Youth development and civic education efforts are growing in Juaben

Local schools continue to call for improved learning infrastructure

Community leaders are advocating for education as a tool to reduce inequality

Launching the first Culture Clubhouse in Juaben will allow us to create a strong model that can be replicated across the country.

Why Culture Clubhouses Matter for Ghana’s Children

If children only learn from materials that do not reflect their identity, they often lose interest in learning. Culture Clubhouses bring education, technology, and cultural pride together to:

• Improve literacy, academic performance, and confidence
• Preserve Ghanaian and African history, language, and cultural identity
• Equip children with digital and creative skills needed for future careers
• Build community, belonging, and access to positive role models

This model strengthens the mind, honours cultural identity, and protects our heritage for generations to come.

A National Vision Led by Connected to Culture

Our goal is to establish Culture Clubhouses across Ghana over the next decade, creating a national network of culturally rich learning environments. These Clubhouses will serve both local communities and the Ghanaian diaspora, building bridges between heritage, education, and global exposure.

The December in Juaben Festival will be the first celebration of this long-term movement and a symbol of what is possible when communities and the diaspora unite around culture and youth development.
